Arrival by car

Coming from the north on the Tauern Autobahn A 10, 70 km south of the city of Salzburg. Take exit Flachau or Flachauwinkl.

Coming from the south on the Tauern motorway A 10 (toll), about 100 km north of Villach. Take exit Flachau or Flachauwinkl.


Useful information:

  • In Austria, warning vests are compulsory for all passengers in the car!
  • Additional tunnel or toll fees may apply (see Tauern tunnel).
    A vignette is required on all Austrian motorways. Vignettes are available at rest stops and petrol stations.

Construction work on the A10

The 14-kilometer section between Golling and Werfen with a total of five tunnels no longer meets the necessary safety standards as the “oldest freeway tunnel chain in Austria”. For this reason, extensive refurbishment measures will be carried out here until June 2025.

Current delays and options for transferring to public transport are displayed on digital screens on the highway and on the most important access routes.

Where is it being built?

The construction work affects the 14-kilometer section of the A10 between Golling and Werfen with a total of five tunnels (Ofenauertunnel, Hieflertunnel, Brentenbergtunnel, Zetzenbergtunnel, Helbersbergtunnel).

When will it be built?

The construction work will take place in three phases between September 2022 and July 2025. Construction work is suspended during the summer months of July to September.

Timetable 2022-2025

Construction phase 1 (September 2022 to August 2023)
The first phase started in 2022. The first preparatory work was carried out off the route, which did not obstruct traffic.

Start of construction phase 2 with traffic obstructions (September 12, 2023)
The second phase of construction work is planned for the period from September 2023 to June 2024.The second phase of construction work is planned for the period from September 2023 to June 2024. During this time, one of the tunnel tubes will be closed while traffic is routed in both directions in the other tube.

Summer break (July to September 2024)

Start of construction phase 3 with traffic obstructions (September 09, 2024)
The construction work will enter its third phase from September 2024 to June 2025. The route will be reopened to traffic in June 2025. Full completion is planned for November 2025.

Alternative routes

From Eastern Austria

Alternative route via A9 – Liezen – Ennstal Bundesstraße in the direction of Radstadt/Altenmarkt.

From Germany via Passau

Alternative route via Linz – Voralpenkreuz – A9 – Liezen – Ennstal Bundesstraße in the direction of Radstadt/Altenmarkt.

From Germany via Munich

Alternative route via “kleines Deutsches Eck” – Bad Reichenhall (D) – Schneizlreuth (D) – Lofer (A) and on towards Saalfelden / Zell am See.

Arrival by train

Traveling by train is not only environmentally friendly, it is also less stressful. Lean back, listen to music, read a good book and enjoy the view of the passing landscape – sounds like a comfortable journey to us!

The nearest train station is in one of our neighboring towns in Radstadt (distance: approx. 20 km or 10 minutes by car). For the journey to Flachau, we recommend contacting the ÖBB Postbus or a local taxi company.
